This unique venue lends itself to a very personalised wedding – formal or informal – traditional or alternative. We always have the most wonderful weddings at Walcot Hall.
Walcot as a place-name is thought to be Saxon in origin, derived from Wald – a forest, and Cote – a dwelling place. This aptly describes the property which is surrounded by a vast panorama of hills and is set on the edge of the Clun forest. It really is a beautiful setting. Lots of wow factor!
Walcot was owned by the Clive family for nearly 200 years – of Clive of India fame. In the final years Walcot Hall was run by Clive’s son Edward who married the heiress of Herbert Earl of Powis and became an Earl himself in 1804. He possessed Walcot for 65 years and added the ballroom wing. After the death of the last Clive and with no heirs remaining Walcot was put up for sale or demolition.
Luckily the Stevens family bought the estate in 1933. The Stevens brothers during their ownership had Walcot Hall completely transformed. In 1956 the Woodbine Parishes bought Walcot Hall from the Stevens and are still there to the present day.
